THE HERITAGE OF PAHADI GINGER
Discover the distinctive taste and traditional heritage of SIRMOŘA Budha Adrak, a special variety of ginger grown in the beautiful mountainous region of Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. Rooted in the traditional farming practices of the hills, Budha Adrak represents the rich agricultural heritage of our region and the wisdom of generations who have valued ginger for its flavour, warmth and place in everyday wellness traditions.
Unlike ordinary ginger commonly found in the market, Budha Adrak is appreciated for its distinctive pungency, earthy fragrance, bold flavour and traditional identity. Its characteristic aroma and warming taste make it a favourite ingredient for winter preparations, freshly brewed ginger tea, traditional kadha, homemade spice blends and everyday cooking.
At SIRMOŘA, we celebrate the importance of preserving traditional planting varieties. Selected rhizomes are kept for the next planting season, continuing the cycle of cultivation and connecting every harvest to the farming traditions of Sirmaur. Our Budha Adrak brings together the natural character of fresh ginger, the distinctive flavour of a traditional variety and the authentic taste of the Pahadi region.

FARM-FRESH GINGER VS. BUDHA ADRAK
Both farm-fresh ginger and Budha Adrak belong to the ginger family, but they can differ in variety, aroma, flavour and traditional use.
Farm-Fresh Ginger
* Generally refers to freshly harvested ginger, often with tender skin and a juicy texture.
* Commonly has a fresh, mildly pungent aroma and a flavour that can be relatively delicate, depending on the variety and maturity.
* Works well in everyday cooking, ginger tea, vegetable dishes, marinades, chutneys and ginger-garlic pastes.
* Its freshness and moisture content make it especially useful when ginger is used frequently in the kitchen.
SIRMOŘA Budha Adrak
* A traditional ginger variety appreciated for its distinctive identity and characteristic flavour.
* Known for its bold, pungent taste and pronounced ginger aroma.
* Particularly suitable for strong ginger tea, traditional kadha, warming winter beverages, pickles and recipes that benefit from an intense ginger flavour.
* Selected planting rhizomes are retained for subsequent growing seasons to continue the traditional cultivation cycle.
The key difference: Farm-fresh ginger describes the freshness of the harvest, whereas Budha Adrak identifies a traditional type of ginger. Freshness, pungency, texture and aroma can vary with the variety, maturity and growing conditions.
NATURAL GOODNESS AND TRADITIONAL WELLNESS
Ginger has been valued in traditional Indian food practices for generations. It contains naturally occurring compounds, including gingerols and shogaols, that contribute to its characteristic pungency and have been studied for their biological properties.
1. Traditionally Used for Digestive Comfort
Ginger is traditionally consumed after meals and in warm beverages. Research suggests that ginger may help with certain types of nausea, although its effects depend on the condition and the individual.
2. A Warming Ingredient for Winter
Ginger is widely used in winter teas, soups, broths and kadha. Its strong flavour and warming sensation make it a popular ingredient during cold weather.
3. Naturally Occurring Antioxidant Compounds
Ginger contains bioactive compounds that have antioxidant activity in laboratory studies. These compounds contribute to the scientific interest in ginger and its traditional uses.
4. Traditionally Used to Soothe the Throat
Warm ginger tea is a familiar home preparation for throat comfort. The warmth of the beverage and ginger’s characteristic flavour can be soothing, although ginger is not a cure for throat infections.
5. A Useful Ingredient in a Balanced Diet
Fresh ginger adds flavour to food without requiring large quantities of salt or sugar. It can be incorporated into a varied, balanced diet through everyday meals and beverages.
6. Studied for Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Some ginger compounds have demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity in experimental research. Studies in people are ongoing, and ginger should not be considered a substitute for prescribed medical treatment.

STORAGE — KEEP YOUR GINGER FRESH FOR LONGER
Fresh ginger is best stored away from excessive moisture, heat and direct sunlight.
Refrigerator Storage: Keep firm, unwashed and dry ginger in a suitable food-storage bag or container in the refrigerator. Check it regularly and remove any pieces that show signs of spoilage.
Traditional Soil Storage: To try retaining freshness at home, place firm, unwashed ginger rhizomes in a clean pot containing slightly moist, well-drained soil or a clean growing medium. Cover the rhizomes lightly and keep the pot in a cool, shaded location. Avoid waterlogging and inspect regularly for mould, softening or rot.
Soil storage may also encourage sprouting, so check the ginger before every use. Wash thoroughly under clean running water before preparing it for food.
